Bi-modal palm biometric system for access control

July 22nd, 2015 | Posted by rihards in Research - (Comments Off on Bi-modal palm biometric system for access control)

We have successfully set up a pilot of our new bi-modal palm biometric system for access control in our institute. We plan to gather feedback from the users about the common issues including usability of the system in order to incorporate this feedback in the next iteration of the prototype.

Our new project is UP and running!

April 3rd, 2014 | Posted by rihards in Research - (Comments Off on Our new project is UP and running!)

Institute of electronics and computer science in collaboration with SIA “Infoserv-Riga” has started a new project titled Palm data acquisition and processing system (PALMs) in January 1st 2014. The project is supported by European Regional Development Fund ERDF grant No.2013/0035/2DP/2.1.1.1.0/13/APIA/VIAA/015 and managed by Dr.Sc.Comp. Modris Greitāns.

In the scope of this project it is planned to develop a palm data acquisition and processing system which uses palm print and palm vein biometric features for person identification.  The project corresponds to the Latvian priority research direction “Innovative materials and technologies”. At the end of the project we plan to offer prototype that could be offered for commercialization. If you have ideas how you could help us or involve in commercialization process, please contact us at the e-mail provided in the contacts tab. News about latest research activities and results will be updated on regular basis. Follow us on Twitter to get the latest news first.

Duration of the project is from January 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015.

The funding amount is 121805 LVL, including ERDF funding of 89724 LVL

Best Poster Award at the BIOSIG 2013 conference

The International Conference of the Biometrics Special Interest Group (BIOSIG) was organized during September 4-6 2013 at Fraunhofer IGD in Darmstadt, Germany. The conference attracted large participation with 106 registered participants from 24 countries.

The participants of the conference also voted for the best paper and the best poster that were presented at the conference. The winner of the BIOSIG 2013 best paper award was Sandra Cremer for her presentation “Quality driven iris recognition improvement”, which convinced the majority of the participants. Amongst the poster contributions, Teodors Eglitis was the winner of the BIOSIG 2013 best poster award, for his work on “FPGA based palmprint and palm vein biometric system”.

Conference Report for IEEE BIOSIG 2013 can be read in the IEEE Biometrics Council Newsletter October 2013 Volume 9 page 6.
